We may suppose that the uncomfortable feeling of boredom calls for psychological effects such as \u201cdisinhibition\u201d or \u201cescape from problems\u201d rather than \u201cacceptance in the peer group\u201d and \u201capproval\u201d. For example \u201cfeel like the others\u201d and \u201cbe fashionable\u201d (i.e. items of \u201cinterpersonal and social confidence\u201d) are social motivations that did not mediate between boredom and binge drinking. Thus, adolescents who are bored seem to engage in binge drinking more to reach \u201cchemical\u201d than social effects. I certainly would have if I\u2019d read this article five years ago.  If you have the time, sign on to a longer-term project like helping with this year\u2019s charity bake sale or the big 5K race your city holds yearly. (Thank God It\u2019s Over)<\/h2>\n<p>As time goes on, friends get into relationships, move away, and you are left feeling bored and alone. Boredom is one of many hazards in early  recovery, but it\u2019s not fundamentally different from other challenging emotions. Instead of dreading boredom, try to use it as a time to reflect on your priorities and whether your daily actions are in line with those. Boredom is an opportunity to think these things over and possibly consider new directions. Just be careful that you don\u2019t fall into negative rumination. The activity of drinking is not a fun, exciting, or interesting activity. It has no power whatsoever to relieve boredom. In fact, the action of drinking is quite boring.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I resisted, and have managed to reject the impulse to booze so far.<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s important to fight long periods of boredom to keep yourself sane but you can also embrace the peace of boredom.<\/li>\n<li>Finally, when nothing seems satisfying, try setting a timer for 10 minutes or so and sticking with an activity for the whole time, even if it feels tedious and pointless at first.<\/li>\n<li>I\u2019m 3 months in and the anxiety is really hard.<\/li>\n<li>While boredom may appear like a trivial thing to a lot of people, the fear of it can drive an addiction by stopping people from seeking help.<\/li>\n<li>Any outreach and connection will help you get outside of yourself and will dash away boredom.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But that\u2019s quite a drive from where I live, is only possible 3 months a year, and is getting quite expensive even just going a few times a year. Will eating salads and drinking water make your boredom go away? Not exactly, but it can make you feel better, which <a href=\"https:\/\/ecosoberhouse.com\/article\/boredom-drinking-and-how-to-stop-it\/\">drinking because of boredom<\/a> has a ripple effect on whether or not you enjoy your life. It also opens up space to approach your internal world differently.
